Competing with the Bentley Bentayga and the soon to come Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Lamborghini have debuted their latest SUV. Named the Urus, Lamborghini have once again entered the SUV market, with their first SUV being the LM002.
The Urus is the ideal car to signify 55 years of the supercar manufacturer going from strength to strength. The Urus ties in features of the Aventador, Hurican and many other classic models. Although, some people say that the brand has been tarnished by producing such tame family-orientated cars. Since being taken over by German car giant (Volkswagen), fans and critics have been debating on if the Urus is just too sensible.
Stefano Domenciali, the Chairman at Lamborghini said this: “The Lamborghini Urus is a visionary approach based on the infusion of Lamborghini DNA into the most versatile vehicle, the SUV,”
Continuing on by saying “The Urus elevates the SUV to a level not previously possible, the Super SUV. It is a true Lamborghini in terms of design, performance, driving dynamics and emotion as well as drivable every day in a range of environments.”
He finished with “The Urus fits perfectly within the Lamborghini family as a high performance car. It is the culmination of intensive development and passionate skill to create a new breed of bull: a Super SUV that transcends the boundaries of expectations and opens the door to new possibilities, for both our brand and our customers.”
Comparing It To Other Luxury SUV’s
When comparing the car to the likes of other SUV’s, it fits in the class of the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7. With the Urus being incredibly stylish, the car also has serious road presence.
The Bentley Bentayga has a 0-62mph time of 4 seconds with the Porsche Cayenne at 4.1 seconds. So the Urus smashes both cars in terms of acceleration. The
Over five years have passed since we saw many design changes, mainly to the back of the car and bonnet. The bonnet looks very similar to the Aventador with the arrow-like aesthetic. The back of the SUV is wider than previously thought, which should be expected with Lamborghini’s track history of wide cars.
The boot slopes down and provides lots of space for passengers, despite the pinched wheel-arch effect the car is spacious.
21-inch wheels are standard with the car but 23-inch wheels are also an option, although nothing is quite as spectacular as normal Lamborghini models. Despite not having extremely sleek wheels it makes up for that with an incredible engine spec.
Stock colours include the yellow colour seen above along with blue and grey options available too.
This is the part which petrol-heads have been waiting for. The mighty Lamborghini Urus spec unveil.. Starting off with 641bhp, the car boasts 627lbs ft of torque (at 2,250rpm). Capable of doing 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 190mph. Those state are impressive for a supercar, let alone an SUV.
Weighing in at 2.2 tonnes, the Urus is the fastest SUV. Although the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, which is just slightly less.
The engine is not loaned from an Aventador SV, but instead a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. Sharing the same engine as the Audi RS6 and Bentley Continental. This comes as no surprised because all three companies are owned by Volkswagen.
Finishing off this mighty spec is the fuel efficiency. The Urus ha the most fuel efficient that Lamborghini has ever produced, with 22.2mpg, 290g/km CO2.
The price of the Urus is set to be lower than $200,000 USD. Or £131,500 for UK buyers.
